Title: Optimization of drug combinations

Speaker: Bogdan Iancu

Abstract:
Synergistic drug combinations are essential in the treatment of disease. They are more effective in combination than separately and lead to lower doses in use, reduced side effects and decline in drug resistance. These combinations, however, cover an exponentially increasing search space. One technique to tackle this problem is the Feedback System Control. Subsequent to analyzing individual drug efficiency, which provides the dosage input, drug combinations are subjected to an optimization algorithm, which  predicts new combinations.  If the identified combinations are not satisfying,  regression analysis is performed to provide effective drug combinations. These combinations are subsequently tested in the wet-lab. The protocol is relevant for various diseases, such as cancer, infectious diseases, etc., as it is not disease specific.
